Justman's survival story and the Ötztal valley as a refuge

Thursday
23 April 2026
Start: 19:00
free entry

Two threads of Leokadia Justman's survival story lead to the Ötztal. Rosi and Eugen Ginzel, a Jewish couple from Cologne, survived the Holocaust in caves in the far Ötztal. In 1946, they became the godparents of Leokadia and her husband Józef Wiśnicki in Innsbruck. Jerzy Rybarczyk, who had forged documents for Justman and other Jewish refugees in Poland, came to Imst himself after being imprisoned by the Gestapo in Poland and married Maria Raich from the Ötztal. The evening offers an immersion into dramatic life stories where the Ötztal mountain world appears as a place of precarious refuge. Dominik Markl reports on his research. An event as part of the exhibition "Brechen wir aus" (Let's Break Out) at Landhaus 1. The evening will be moderated by Edith Hessenberger.
