The lecture will present a collection of fairly told children's Bible stories.
The book project is based, among other things, on a study of the textual and pictorial world in current children's Bibles, in which it became clear that anti-Judaic stereotypes are still clearly expressed there.
The „Good News Told Fairly“ is an attempt to make the scientific findings from the Jewish-Christian dialogue accessible for children's Bibles. The text and illustrations aim to convey the Good News to children free of anti-Jewish overtones and other forms of discrimination.
As part of the book project, the biblical texts were intensively scrutinised. Every word was often fought over in the Jewish-Christian dialogue. The collection of children's Bible stories presented here shows that New Testament texts can be told fairly. The lecture presents the background, objectives and challenges of the project.
Christianity is essentially linked to Judaism in its self-image. In 2000, the Ecumenical Council of Churches in Austria (ÖRKÖ) introduced the „17 January - Day of Judaism“ as a day of remembrance in the church year. On this day, Christians should become aware of their communion with Judaism in a special way and at the same time remember the injustices committed by them against Jewish people and their faith in history. The date for the Day of Judaism was chosen deliberately: The churches are to carry the spirit of this day into the subsequent worldwide „Week of Prayer for Christian Unity“ (18 to 25 January).
