
SHIRA - this is not only a Hebrew female name meaning poetry and song, but also the title of Shira Karmon's latest album. With songs in Hebrew, Sephardic, and Yiddish, "SHIRA" brings the multicultural atmosphere of Spain at the time and present-day Israel to the stage.
The Israeli soprano Shira Karmon She has sung at venues including the List Hall in Graz, the Konzerthaus Berlin, and the opera houses in Bolzano, Strasbourg, and Saarbrücken. Her performances have taken her to international festivals in Germany, including Schwetzingen, to Great Britain, Switzerland (Verbier), Vienna (Wien Modern, Studio Agrana of the Vienna State Opera), and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. She is extensively involved with Jewish music and has performed this repertoire at the „Jewish Cultural Days Berlin“, in Washington, and in New York. Shira Karmon is a prize winner of the „Song of the 20th and 21st Centuries“ competition organised by the Cultural Circle of German Industry and received the prize for the best interpretation of Israeli music in Israel. Her CD „The Spirit of Hope“ with Paul Gulda was released in November 2021 by the Viennese label Gramola.
Shira Karmon is at home in many genres. From opera and classical music, through 20th-century modernism, to jazz and world music. She has performed with Daniil Trifonov, Paul Gulda, the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, and the Haifa Symphony Orchestra, among others.
Antonis Vounelakos, gBorn in Athens in 1966, has lived in Vienna since 1983. Studied classical guitar at the Vienna Conservatory and at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, graduating with honours in 1991. 1991-1995: Studied musicology at the University of Vienna. Simultaneously, engaged intensely with jazz and especially flamenco. Participated in numerous projects such as: "Gazpacho Andaluz", "Misa Flamenca", "Rueda Flamenca" I and II, "Casa de Muñecas", "Viento del Este". Founder of the group "Artwork Quartet" and member of the formations "Yuko Gulda", "Lakis & Achwach", "Mandys Mischpoche", "Fuego y Roció", "Six of Soul", "Jazzbransch" and "Timna Brauer & Elias Meiri Ensemble". Numerous concerts at home and abroad. both as a solo guitarist and as an accompanist for singer-songwriters Linde Prelog, Barbara Stromberger, and the Cypriot singer Loukia Agapiou.
