Rozette Kats was born into a Jewish family in Amsterdam on 27 May 1942. In the face of Nazi persecution, she was taken into the care of a Dutch couple at the age of eight months, who called Rozettefortan „Rita“. Her parents were deported to Auschwitz with Rozette's brother, who was still an infant, and murdered there. Rozette learnt of her parents' fate and her real name in May 1948, shortly before her sixth birthday. Since the 1990s, Rozette Kats has performed as a Holocaust survivor in Dutch and German schools.
